You don’t cross the Mâconnais, you savour it. Between Mâcon and the Beaujolais hills, a string of winegrowing villages unfolds through a landscape of slopes, spectacular rocks and Romanesque bell towers — the native land of the poet Lamartine, who sang of these hills. Here is our route of the heart, the one we recommend to visitors of the estate.
The essential stops
Solutré-Pouilly first: the Rock, the Prehistory museum, and our hamlet of Pouilly. Then Vergisson, nestled beneath its own rock, more intimate. Fuissé, which gives the other half of the appellation’s name, lines up its handsome winegrowers’ houses. Chaintré closes the march to the south. And at the gates of Mâcon, Charnay-lès-Mâcon hides treasures — including our Clos de la Tournache, a walled parcel we farm as a monopole.
Our road tips
Allow a full day: distances are short but temptations are many. Alternate walking and cellars — the climb up Solutré or Vergisson is earned before the tasting, never after. Book your estate visits in advance, especially at weekends: ours takes two clicks from the Visits & Tastings page. And keep room in the boot: Pouilly-Fuissé travels very well.
