The Clos de la Tournache

A historic walled parcel, solely owned by the estate — a monopole, just as Burgundy loves them.

In Burgundy, a “clos” is a vineyard enclosed by walls, and a “monopole” a parcel belonging to a single owner. The Clos de la Tournache, in the heart of Charnay-lès-Mâcon, is both at once: two hectares in one piece, protected by their old walls, of which Domaine Pascal Renaud is the sole owner. A rarity we vinify under the Mâcon Charnay-lès-Mâcon appellation.

A microclimate within the walls

A clos’s walls are not decorative: they store the day’s warmth, cut the wind and create a slightly earlier-ripening microclimate. Add deep clay-silt soils, a hillside facing south to south-east and 75-year-old vines, and you get grapes that combine generous ripeness with a reserve of freshness — the perfect equation for Mâconnais Chardonnay.

The wine of the clos

Aged in stainless steel to keep all the brightness of the fruit, the Clos de la Tournache Monopole charms with its ripe yellow fruit, its crispness, its mineral energy and its delicate muscat-like notes — an aromatic signature rarely found in the Mâconnais. Enjoy within 3 years, at 13 °C, as an aperitif or with grilled fish and simply roasted poultry.
