Charnay-lès-Mâcon borders the city of Mâcon, of which it is almost a suburb — but a suburb of vines. Like Solutré-Pouilly, the commune benefits from a village denomination within the Mâcon appellation: Mâcon Charnay-lès-Mâcon, a hillside Chardonnay of generous character.
Deep soils, ample wines
Charnay’s deep clay-silt soils hold water and feed the vine generously: the wines gain a volume and a ripeness of fruit that set them apart from more limestone-driven Mâcons. Well exposed to the south and south-east, the slopes give sunny whites, at once ripe and fresh.
The Clos de la Tournache, our monopole
Our only vineyard in the appellation is also one of our most singular: the Clos de la Tournache, a historic 2-hectare parcel enclosed by walls, of which the estate is the sole owner. Its 75-year-old vines give an ample, perfumed wine with delicate muscat-like notes, perfect as an aperitif or with carefully prepared everyday cooking. Discover it within 3 years, at 13 °C.
