Created in 1971, Saint-Véran is the youngest of the great white appellations of the Mâconnais. Its vineyards embrace those of Pouilly-Fuissé in two pockets, north and south, on the slopes surrounding the Rock of Solutré. Like its prestigious neighbour, it is devoted exclusively to Chardonnay.
A profile of freshness
With its often higher altitudes and varied soils — limestone, clay and silt —, Saint-Véran produces wines with a radiant profile: white flowers, orchard fruit, citrus, carried by a thirst-quenching liveliness. Less opulent than a Pouilly-Fuissé, they make up for it with energy and drinkability — great wines of immediate pleasure that can also hold their own at the table.
Our Champs de Perdrix
The estate signs a single Saint-Véran, from the lieu-dit Champs de Perdrix: a 1.15-hectare parcel perched at 300 metres, with clay-silt soils facing south-south-east. Aged in stainless steel to preserve its fruit — peach, nectarine, pear —, the Champs de Perdrix drinks well within 3 to 5 years, at 13 °C. Try it with oysters, a Mâconnais goat cheese or Burgundy snails: a true local pairing.
